‘Athena’ – Llanelli Writers’ Circle Anthology

John Thompson and author Sally Spedding at the launch of ‘Athena’ Llanelli Writers’ Circle Anthology
Although “The Brindavan Chronicle” has been available on Amazon since early July, the official launch is on October 3rd – now only just over one week away. Doing something like this for the first time is always a little daunting, but I had a nice little practice recently when my local writing group – Llanelli Writers’ Circle – launched our group anthology, “Athena”, containing members’ work (prose, poetry, fiction and non-fiction) selected by the publishing committee. I have 2 award-winning short stories in it: “Family Connections” is a crime story about a woman who murders her husband, but fortuitously has connections which allow her to get away with it; “Better Late Than Never” is a ghost story about a woman and her mother, who finally resolve their strained relationship after the mother’s death.
I was asked to read the crime story at the launch, and received some favourable comments afterwards, most notably from the Mayor! After so many years of retirement I was a bit nervous about reading in public again – though reading a piece of your own work is very different from addressing a judge or jury. It was good to know that the voice still carries – albeit with the aid of a mike!
Incidentally, anyone reading this who would like a copy of “Athena” (£5 + postage), let me know.
