Book Fairs and Childrens’ Writing Competitions – a busy week!

Well, what a week! Saturday 30th April we had the privilege of having a stall at the Llandeilo Book Fair, where we met many wonderful people. It’s lovely to meet fellow authors and see the different genres out there – only one complaint – the day flew by! The hall was full of stalls with book displays of all kinds – it was full of colour and imagination. One thing that I particularly enjoyed was the Childrens’ writing competition results…I did not envy the judges’ hard task – it is not easy to choose a winner when there is so much creativity out there.
This is something that both Sarada and I could relate to, as we had just finished judging a mini creative writing competition at a local school for years 3 – 6. There were some lovely and imaginative stories – and as we know imagination is an important quality a writer needs to have. So how did we choose? I won’t lie…it wasn’t easy…I know you often hear the statement that all the entries were of a high standard but in this case I can honestly say they were. Each one was unique and we thoroughly enjoyed reading each and every one. In the end it boiled down to the story that stood out the most – the writer had let their imagination fly!
So far we are booked to travel to Winchester Book Fair, Bristol, London but we couldn’t help asking ourselves why does Carmarthen not have a Book Fair of its own? Well, news just in! As of the 1st October 2016 – it will do! There will be a childrens’ creative writing competition, stalls for Welsh, local and independent authors to display their wonderful talent, talks, readings and workshops should any author be interested in contributing. Heaven for authors and book enthusiasts!
