Carmarthen Bookfair Sat 11 Nov 17 – to be dedicated to Anthony’s memory.

Date September 8, 2017 Author By Sarada Thompson Category General

anthonyFollowing our successful debut last year, Carmarthen Book Fair is back. This year the Carmathen Book Fair is on the 11/11/2017 at St Peter’s Civic Hall, Nott’s Square, Carmarthen. We are dedicating the Carmarthen Book Fair to Anthony ‘Trance’ Jones. Adieu, to a gentle, sensitive Writer-Poet, who has left so so many grieving. (Picture of Anthony on left, with his very good friend Dom at the Carmarthen Book Fair 2016.) We have invited Dominic Williams to say a few words on behalf of Anthony.

Last year, John Thompson wrote ,” it is surprising that until now Book Fairs have existed around the town but not in the town itself. Strange, as the town of Carmarthen is steeped in literary history; after all this is where The Black Book of Carmarthen – the oldest manuscript written entirely in Welsh – originates from.

“Not only is the town of Carmarthen famed for this incredible book but let us not forget the legend of Merlin and Merlin’s Oak. The famous oak stood for centuries at the junction of Priory Street and Old Oak Lane until 1978 when it was taken down in order to facilitate the flow of traffic.

“Thankfully Merlin’s prophecy ‘When Priory’s Oak shall tumble down, Then shall fall Carmarthen Town’ has not come true. Fragments of this famous oak are held in a case in the foyer in St. Peter’s Civic Hall as well as at the local museum.”

We welcome you to join us Saturday 11th November 2017, 10.00 – 4.00pm at the hall. There will be stalls for Welsh, local, independent authors to showcase their talent, talks, readings, workshops, results from the children’s writing competition announced (schools from Carmarthen will be contacted directly), and a raffle, – the proceeds of which will go to local mental health organisations. There will be a Children’s story telling hour and hopefully some of our younger visitors may like to dress up as their favourite book character? Hwyl – Fun!

As I write, we only have one and maybe a shared place left: result of last minute cancellation/s unfortunately due to health and family issues, so if you are an author please email us with the following details:

Your author name

Your location

The number of books published

The genre

Links to your book/s on amazon, facebook and/or your website etc and whether you would like to make any contributions to the programme i.e talks, readings, workshops etc.
